Excursion to Metsovo, Ioannina, Zagorochoria, Papigo

Two-day trip to Metsovo, Ioannina, Zagorochoria, Papigo, on 2-3/12, only with 75€.

Tour programme:

Day 1: Departure in the morning from our city to Metsovo. Built amphitheatrically at an altitude of 1,200 m, the Vlach head village has left its mark on the tourist map of Greece. Home of the national benefactors Georgios Averoff, Nikolaos Stournaras and Mikhail Tositsa, and many others, it has contributed to our country with many sponsorships for the establishment of charitable institutions. Across from the church of the central square, Agia Paraskevi, three fountains are a meeting point for the locals with their traditional costumes and characteristic glitter. Houses built in the Epirus architecture, with stone, wood and slabs, among cobbled streets, alleys, taverns, shops with traditional products. Be sure to try the local smoked cheese mozzovone and grilled meat on a spit! A modern art gallery, the Averoff Gallery, with a permanent exhibition of excellent sculptures and prints, is near the square. If you like visiting such places, don’t miss it! Arrival then in Ioannina, the beautiful city of Epirus, the lively castle town, which looks like a setting from another era, with traditional buildings , special cafes but also important museums. We suggest a walk on the lake and on the small island where the house museum of Ali Pasha. Overnight stay.

Day 2: After breakfast we depart for the Gardens in Central Zagori. We walk and take photos of the stone arched bridges of the area and then depart for Monodendri, where we will have free time for a walk and optional food. We will tour the picturesque village of Zagorochoria, which dominates the Vikos Gorge with its unique stone architecture of its houses and the characteristic stone forest at the Oxia site. From there we will see the breathtaking spectacle of the Vikos Gorge, one of the largest and deepest gorges in the world. In Monodendri, through a short hike we can visit the Monastery of Ag. Friday, which literally hangs on the edge of the canyon! In the afternoon departure for our city with very beautiful pictures from our excursion.
