Meteora, one of Greece’s natural wonders, is known for its breathtaking landscapes and monasteries that make it an exceptional destination to discover | Up to 12 hours
The first stop is the city of Thermopylae, where one of the most historic and decisive battles in the Greek history took place, when King Leonidis and 300 brave Spartans gave their lives to liberate Greece. “Honor and glory” was the motto of the Greek warriors and so was the memory they left behind.
Afterwards, we will continue our trip towards the city of Kalabaka, where you can admire the picturesque and rocky nature of Meteora, declared a UNESCO heritage site in 1988. The wild landscape of the giant rocks that make up the horizon of Meteora are estimated to be 60 million years old, and over the years have taken on the shape we know today following earthquakes and erosions. To this day, many researchers come to Meteora to try to unravel the mystery of the geological natural phenomenon.
Meteora is the second most appreciated monastic complex in Greece, preceded by Mount Athos. On our trip we will reach three monasteries in Meteora from which you can be impressed.
Laten on, we will arrive for lunch at a local tavern in Kalabaka, where you can choose from a variety of dishes from tjr traditional Greek cuisine (not included in the tour cost), and back to Athens.
