Manos Hatzidakis – “30”: a unique concert at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus

A concert with works by Manos Hatzidakis will be presented at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, on Tuesday, October 8, at 9 pm, with Alcinoos Ioannidis.

PART I: “MYTHOLOGY”
THE UNEXPECTED FORMATION OF A “MYTHOLOGY” TWO YEARS BEFORE THE DICTATORSHIP

“As a true general in ’65, I wanted to make a revolution in Greece. Instead of a tank, I took a child – a dark and beautiful teenager from the children’s choir of the palaces and told him to sing. He tells me: “to sing I need new myths” .- Quite right, I thought. And Gatso and I began to invent one myth after another, with girls who lost the keys to Thebes, with Irishmen and Jews who were looking for marriage and joy in the desert, with sensitive robbers in their last moment, with a child who slaughters friends and brothers because no one ever gave him the importance he deserved, with Orestes who became a bird in the forest to escape his fate, with a child who looked like Christ and and many more. And one myth came on top of the other and they became so many and so strong that the child was scared, the company that was going to release the album was scared, except for Gatso, who continued with more passion the construction and synthesis of myths, completely forgetting the revolution I had planned”. Manos Hadjidakis

PART II: 19 SONGS OF ANOTHER MYTHOLOGY

A unit of independent songs of the composer’s “other mythology”, with paper moons that illuminate children down on the plain, drunken girls, wayfarers, young princes who thought they would change the world and a misunderstanding that we don’t know if an explanation has been given yet.
