On this day, most commercial businesses and services remain closed, however, many taverns, restaurants and ouzeries throughout Athens and its neighborhoods choose to operate, in order to serve citizens who wish to enjoy a traditional meal.<\/p>\n\n\n

Tradition has it that March 25th is the day on which Greeks consume cod with garlic, due to the religious nature of the fasting that prevails during Lent. Thus, taverns and restaurants that will be open will make sure to have this classic combination on their menu, along with other fasting or traditional Greek dishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several shops are expected to operate, attracting people who wish to celebrate the day with good food and company. Many taverns will feature live music or traditional songs, creating a warm and festive atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the increased demand, it is always a good idea to make a reservation in advance to ensure availability, as many shops fill up quickly on this day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
